- Swim Course Directions
- The swim will start on the main beach in the park. Looking at the water, it's the beach on the left. (The sprint uses the beach on the right). Swim course will be a basic diamond-shaped pattern running clockwise. Should minimize sun interference. It's a beautiful spring-fed lake and despite the inevitable frenzy of the swim start, I think you'll find it a nice way to start the morning.
- Transition 1
- The run up to the transition area is mostly on asphalt, about 50 yards. No bonus time will be given for playing Water Balloon Wars or Frogger, though it may add to overall fun. Hey, Itís an amusement park after allÖ enjoy it!! (at your own T1 expense)
- Bike Course Directions
This is a technical and challenging bike course. Use caution and good judgment at all times.
- First six miles downhills & flats. It's Hammertime! - Bikes will leave through the main driveway of the park and turn right onto route 64.
You'll follow the same course as the sprint for the first two turns; a right onto Rt. 64 out of the park and a right onto Tuttle Road. Tuttle becomes White Deer Rocks Road at the Cat Swamp junction. Then it's a bit of a hairy descent, dropping away to the left down White Deer Rocks. (Instead of the 'S' turn on the sprint course, you will go down the hill, to the left) This is still White Deer Rocks Road. I ride this road often in training and I think it is safe to say that it requires brake usage. Please, DO NOT put your fellow competitors in jeopardy through this fast downhill section. There are a few turns on this descent, so be alert and ready to react. Slower descenders stay RIGHT and allow competitors to pass. Weíll most likely have traffic limited to only local residents through some of these side roads, but be alert for cars at all times. Officially, you will be sharing the road with cars for the entire course.
- COURSE CHANGE 2013It's a slight uphill to the RIGHT onto Old Middle Road. Volunteers will be in place to point the way and course markings will be in place. A left onto Middle Road Tnpk will bring you to Rt. 6. RIGHT onto Route 6. LEFT onto Quassuk Rd. RIGHT onto Route 47.
- Miles 6-15 - Revenge of the Climbers - From Rt. 47, take a right onto Rt. 132. for the next nine miles or so, you're faced with some climbing. From Rt. 132, you will take a right onto Weekeepeemee road [north entrance] (yes, that's the right spelling). But it won't be the first entrance to Weekeepeemee Rd. Skip that one, thatís the south entrance. Rt. 132 goes up, and up, and up again, around and down to the right and then a right off of Rt. 132 onto Weekeepeemee Rd.
- Continue on Weekeepeemee Rd to a left onto Chohees. Things should be breaking up pretty good by this point. Left off of Chohees onto Flanders Road. Another two miles to the Aid Station at Flanders and Rt. 61 junction. Bottle hand off will be here at mile 15 on what is still a slight uphill section, making it easy to grab a bottle 'on the fly'. Sports drink and water will be available. Do your best to thank our volunteers, no matter how bad you're feeling. Things are getting better from here.
- Miles 15-19 - Time to Regroup - Right off of Flanders Rd onto Rt. 61 at the top of the hill after the aid station. You're heading back. Route 61 is 3.5 miles of reward for your efforts so far, net downhill to Rt. 6. Be aware that the transfer station is open on Saturday morning and cars may be taking the left turn into the driveway there.
- You will be reaching some pretty good speeds on this section, but keep in mind you are sharing the road with cars too. Give room for them to pass where it's safe to do so. This section should see some regrouping of the race as the lightweight climber types give up some of the ground they gained. We'll see.
- Miles 19-25 - A Little More Suffering - At the bottom of Rt. 61 you will cross Rt. 6 and go straight onto Quassapaug Rd. Its a six-mile straight shot back to the park from here. Well, straight with intermittent climbing. (You'll be coming onto the return trip of the sprint bike course) Quassapaug Rd becomes Watertown Rd, then becomes Upper Whittemore (look for the smiley face with 'last hill' painted on the road!), then a right at the fork onto Tranquility Rd, which ends at Rt. 64 where the park is located. A right onto Rt. 64 puts you back at the park in a half mile. Volunteers will be there to wave you in. You will have to slow significantly to make the turn back in, so be prepared. Having fun yet?

- Run Course Directions
Double Your Pleasure! The run course is a double loop. The benefit of the double loop is that you'll get to keep an eye on the competition, and get all amped up by the crowd support as you come around for lap 2.
- RUN COURSE CHANGE FOR 2006:
- The Olympic run course will now be the same as the Sprint run course.
You will leave the park via the service entrance (old driveway) and take a right onto Rt. 64 then a right onto Old Woodbury Rd. At about 1.25miles you will come to a traffic island, go right and continue down Old Sherman Hill Rd to the turnaround. (DO NOT TAKE THE EARLIER RIGHT HEADING AROUND THE BACKSIDE OF THE LAKE, KEEP GOING DOWN THE HILL)
- Head back to the park, and the turn around for lap 2 will be just outside the the park entrance. Now go and do it again and head to the finish line in the service road. Youíre done.
- Tough course, congrats on finishing. It has a solid little following by now, youíre officially a part of it, hope you enjoyed the challenge Ė as I hear it, most of you love it because itís tough. Good for you.
- Cold beer will be available at the post race Quassy picnic featuring hot dogs, hamburgers, cole slaw, potato salad, soda and other picnic fare. Cold beer will also be served. Enjoy! (And maybe this year Iíll get the amount of beer right, you guys and gals impress the heck out of me with your beer consumption and Iím proud of you! Cheers!!)
